Making Your Wardrobe Clean and Fresh

If your home is your personal haven, the closet is the main refuge of your clothing. It safeguards your garments from dust, moulds and other things that may affect their quality. Although such a closed space can indeed provide the necessary protection for your apparel, it does not mean that you leave the staple household furnishing as it is and not care to clean it. Otherwise, your shirts and trousers may develop spots and stains that may either take time to remove or cannot be eliminated at all.

Once in a while, you need to vacuum the interiors of your wardrobe. Empty it of your things first before you do so. Mix one part of white vinegar into the same proportion of water and use this concoction to dampen a cloth which you will use to wipe the walls, compartments and shelves to remove odours and stains.

Check the interiors for cracks, leaks and other breaks in the surfaces so that moulds and mildew will not proliferate within these fissures. Re-glue or join them with the right material that matches the original one. You can use latex sealant for this.

Examine each article of clothing you have. Perhaps you can dispose some which you have not used for at least six months. Packing in a lot of garments in such a closed space can also encourage mould development. You should air out some of your suits as well.

Apparel that has been worn should not be re-hung in your closet as this can promote mildew growth and make the interiors develop a certain odour.

To repel insects and other pests, use essential oils like sweet marjoram, lavender and rosemary.

To make your clothes and wardrobe smell good, place freshener sheets or pieces of textile moistened with fabric conditioner within or in between layers of shirts and pants.

Update your suits and outfits at certain intervals to renew the kind of garments you have in your closet. Have your formal wear custom-made by adept tailors like those at Excelsior.
