Preparing Your Home and Garden for a Party

You have decided to hold a special event right in your own house either to cut down costs or to make the occasion an especially intimate and private one. One of the primary consequences of making this venue choice is the obligation to spruce up your residence in and out for it to be suitable for your guests. With good planning and considerable time, you can make this happen without draining your energies or encountering one complication too many.

Clean your floors about a week or a few days before the actual date. This is so that the newly buffed look of your surfaces will still be evident during the party without you having to be up later or for more hours than you should the day before the soiree. If your grounds are covered in carpet, having them laundered in advance gives them time to dry in time for the event.

Vacuum the living room and other areas where guests are likely to congregate or pass through. If you lack the time to do this, speed-clean by wiping the tops of tables, desks and other accessories. Check whether the lights in and out of your home are functioning well and replace faulty ones days before the celebration. Have your lawn mowed and the garden plants watered and trimmed.

On the day of the party, close and lock rooms in the house which will not be used by the invitees and keep the more fragile or valuable items within a secure storage area. This is especially if there are children attending the gathering.

Position mats and rugs at strategic locations where spills are most likely to happen so that you minimise the number of stains on your floors.

Finally, do not forget to take care of your own appearance and wear the appropriate clothing. After all, you are the host and so you should dress like one, especially if your party is a formal one or involves executives among your guests. Have your apparel custom-made by capable tailors like those at Excelsior.
